Keywords

This first step will determine your whole on-page SEO. Based on your experience, competition and user search habits, you will be able to list keywords and key expressions (composed by 2 or 3 keywords) that users may enter in search engines to find your website.

“Content is king”. You must provide quality content to readers and to search engines. Doing one or the other would bring poor results. Write smooth texts with the keywords you have chosen. ALT tag

If you use pictures, make sure that they are not just used to decorate your pages, but also to bring valuable information such as underlining content. The ALT tag is used to explain to a search engine robot what pictures are about. When pictures are well referenced, they can bring traffic from image searches.

Internal links

Link your pages to each other to allow users and search engine robots to browse through your website. Users will enjoy the navigation: they will find information quickly and discover valuable information they did not expect. Robots will be able to index all pages in a better way and they will see what the most important pages are. Try to make links from every page to your home page in order to enhance its importance.

W3C validation

Allow search engines robots to index all your pages better. You can check if your pages respect the W3C standards (World Wide Web Consortium). You will be able to see where errors still exist. A non-validated website will be hard or impossible to reference on search engines.
